Type Locality and Naming

The type section is at Changkengshui in Qujiang County, northern Guangdong. The Changkengshui Fm was named by Central-South Compiling Group for Regional Stratigraphic Scale (1974).

Synonym: (长坑水组)


Lithology and Thickness

The Changkengshui Fm is composed of black slaty siliceous shale intercalated with carbonaceous shale.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It rests conformably on the siltstone and chert at the top of the Xiahuangkeng Fm.

Upper contact

Regional extent

In the type area, the Changkengshui Fm is 55 m thick, southward to Taishan, Guangdong, only 3.5 m thick strata are exposed, with most being covered.

Fossils

This stratigraphic unit includes two graptolite zones, i.e., the G. hincksii zone and N. gracilis zone. At Xinchang in Taishan, only one graptolite zone, H. teretiusculus zone, was established in this formation (Chen et al., 1987).
